Solitary Bees

Solitary bees do not live in colonies but exist as male and female bees. They live for just one season, often as short as 6-8 weeks. We have 80 species of solitary bee in Ireland. They are very diverse and include groups such as Mining bees, Mason bees and Leaf cutter bees. Many are difficult to identify accurately but check out the following weblink for some of the more easier identified species:
