Your Christmas dinner and pollinators

You may be thinking what has my Christmas dinner got to do with pollinators – well  actually quite a lot. Without bees, flies and hoverflies there would be no cranberries, brusselsprouts or parsnips, to name just a few items. Check out the following website for more information and a great diagram http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/no-bees-no-christmas-dinner

brussel sproutsI first read about this is Jeff Ollerton’s blog (http://jeffollerton.wordpress.com/2014/12/27/did-you-remember-to-thank-the-insects-for-christmas/)

About Murtagh's Meadow

As an ecologist I have always had an interest in nature. I love gardening and would spend all day outdoors if I could. I also enjoy taking photographs and writing. I live in the west of Ireland with my young family.
